SOUND DESIGN - ADVERTISING
Sport is as much about sound as it is about movement.
The strike of the ball, the echo of footsteps, the tension of silence before a serve, these sonic details shape how audiences feel the moment.
This project explored that relationship by reimagining the audio landscape of a tennis narrative centred on Nadal’s relentless intensity and physical power.
The design focused on contrast: the calm stillness of environment versus the explosive energy of competition.
PROCESS
All original audio and dialogue were removed from existing TVC to create a blank sonic canvas.
A new soundscape was designed, carefully shaping how each moment of the story was perceived through sound.
Contrasting textures were used throughout the piece to highlight the paradox between environments. These included:
-
Peaceful countryside atmospheres, evoking stillness and focus
-
Sharp, aggressive tennis impacts, emphasising Nadal’s power
-
Subtle tension layers, building anticipation between points
-
Environmental transitions, shifting from serenity to the intensity of a gruelling match environment
OUTCOME
The project highlights how sound design can transform a sporting narrative, shaping not only what audiences hear, but how they feel the pressure, power and drama of the moment. The contrast between quiet environment and explosive athletic intensity mirrors the psychological reality of elite competition.
